WHO AM I

Kira Luá, since I was a little girl I painted the walls of my room, danced ballet, loved to play alone and create imaginary stories of a fantastic world, of enchantments. At the age of fourteen, in Mogi das Cruzes, I began to study observational drawing with a Dutch artist, Prof. Van der Wiell, classical oil painting techniques and charcoal drawing where I measured proportions with string and sticks. Art has always been on my side, I did a degree in visual arts at FAAP in São Paulo, 1985, the focus was contemporary and avant-garde art, I had professors who are icons of Brazilian contemporary art such as Nelson Lerner, Regina Silveira, Ubirajara Ribeiro, Donato Ferrari, Evandro Carlos Jardim , Professors of art critics such as Daisy Peccininie and classmates  who became important artists called Geração 80, Leda Catunda and Sergio Romagnolo.

In 1987, together with the artists from Mogi,  Claudio Assis and Nerival Rodrigues, I set up " Pagina 3", a residence atelier, which was a milestone in the history of art in Mogi, even recounted in a book by Claudio Assis , there I started my art work with experimental painting ,   in a working process of natural materials, textures and gestural movements, my works were influenced by Taoist thought , ancestral memories of my maternal family where 3 generations lived in China,   and also  on environmental issues. At that time I was involved with the ecological movement in Mogi das Cruzes, where I was one of the founders of the MEL group (Mogiano Ecológico Livre) and PV. At that time, I had great support from the artist and theoretician of contemporary art, Lucia Py, who made my work grow, deepen, have a refinement and aesthetic quality and a language.

I created the   Space for children's art ARTEMIM, in 1988, it was a great experience with 2 exhibitions of children's art held in the city with a   focus on creativity, spontaneity, self-expression and environmental education art.

In 2000 I specialized in Art Therapy, I worked at Carandiru, at APAE, with cancer patients, mental illnesses, children, adults and the elderly, who gave me a foundation   and philosophical influences for my work in art, I wrote a book " Linguagem de Dentro, Helena's paintings", reflecting on the creative and artistic process and the inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities.

After the experimental process, I started to create art objects and installations and only later did I arrive at sculpture, in an inverse process of the history of art that gives sculpture, the works turned to objects and installations, when I met the Italian sculptor, Mario Palermo, whom I married and I had two children, Jacques A. Palermo and Giulia Palermo. With Mario Palermo I learned to make sculptures and many other  techniques, he died in 2015, leaving me speechless, he was a great companion and love. After having gone through the Sacred Stones that lasted more than 10 years of creation,   I managed to create the Imaginary Beings. My work followed a path of collaborative and shared art, where I bring art to questions and a position of conduct and thought, that Art is for everyone, belongs to everyone and is in everyone, breaking pre-established concepts that art is for the few. , of exclusion and elitism, this was due to my experiences   with art education, art therapy ,    0  0  0 -bb3b-136bad5cf58d_           _cc781905 -5cde-3194-bb3b-136bad5cf58d_movimento ecological, positions that brought these aspects into discussion.  The Imaginary Beings are toy-art , they came out of sculpture and expanded into , experimenting with different territories  in photography, video, performances and animation theater. Today I say that the Imaginary Beings   created life, movement, voice  and their own  imaginary stories. imaginary stories. -136bad5cf58d_ The imaginary, fantastic universe comes to enchant and at the same time invite the public to interact and imagine, it has references   in Surrealism, especially in the Artist Joan Miró, but also _cc781905-5cde-3194- bb3b-136bad5cf58d_carrego an inspiration from the artist Niki Sant Phalle.

I coordinated a project at the cultural site and artistic residence SOLAR AZUL DO GALO CANTANTE in Canela, Serra Gaúcha, where  I developed works of art, environmental education, art therapy, received national and foreign artists for projects and _cc781905-5cde -3194-bb3b-136bad5cf58d_diversified groups For an environmental and creative experience, I held the Festival de Solar de Arte e Cultura collaborative with a group of artists and friends.

I currently live at CASA, ATELIER E GALERIA, O CANTO DA MATA, in Canela.
